Fingerpicking is a great way to add melody and rhythm to your ukulele playing. Unlike strumming, fingerpicking lets you play individual notes and create more intricate patterns.

Simple Fingerpicking Pattern

Try this basic pattern on the open strings:

A |---0-----0-----0-----0---
E |-----0-----0-----0-----0-
C |-------0-----0-----0-----
G |-0----------------------
    T I M I T I
  • T = Thumb (G string)
  • I = Index (C string)
  • M = Middle (E string)

Repeat this pattern slowly and evenly. Once you’re comfortable, try it with different chords!

Tip: Keep your hand relaxed and use the tips of your fingers for a clear sound.
